Dec 17, 2025
Courtesy of AlphaMedia USA Lincoln.LINCOLN–(KFOR Dec. 16)–Class A No. 2 Lincoln North Star had their hands full with pesky Lincoln Northeast for most of the first half of Tuesday night’s boys basketball game at The Swamp.
But it took a 16-7 scoring run in the third quarter to give the Navigato
rs the edge the rest of the game and hold on to defeat the Rockets 52-42 in a game heard on KFOR.
North Star (2-1) was coming off an 88-14 victory last Friday over Grand Island and started the game with 6-5 senior Goay Gatwech with a transition dunk off a Northeast turnover to start the game. Northeast, however, hung around the entire first half, first going up 9-6 off of a three-pointer from 6-1 sophomore guard Keaton Weatherholt, who led the Rockets in scoring with 21 points. Two possessions later, Northeast extended their lead to 11-8 off a Dhoul Yiel basket.
North Star took control after the first quarter and later led at halftime 23-21 before their third quarter run.
Northeast (2-3) last led 25-24 with six minutes left in the third quarter, after Weatherholt made a putback off a missed shot from Hayden Tenopir. The rest of the third quarter belong to North Star.
J’Shawn Afuh helped spark a run for the Gators with a basket to put North Star back in front that later saw their lead increase to 39-28 heading into the fourth quarter.
Jordan Castor, a 5-11 junior guard, led the Gators with 22 points.
