Colorado basketball game vs. Portland State to be played without fans due to ‘safety’ concerns
Dec 17, 2025
The CU Events Center will be closed to the public for Colorado’s men’s basketball game against Portland State on Wednesday night.
Due to “high winds, power outages around Boulder, and potentially hazardous road conditions,” the game set to tip off at 7 p.m. will be played without fans in
attendance.
“Colorado Athletics apologizes for the inconvenience but in the interest of fan safety and to conserve public safety personnel resources, it was determined that it was in the best interest of our fans and our teams to play tonight’s game without fans,” a statement read.
Fans with tickets to Wednesday’s game will be issued a single-use promo code by the end of Monday, Dec. 22, for tickets to the Buffaloes’ next home game, against Northern Colorado on Dec. 28.
The National Center for Atmospheric Research’s Mesa Laboratory in south Boulder reported a peak wind gust of 109 miles per hour Wednesday and Xcel Energy has reported the number of people in Boulder County without power is in the tens of thousands.
The Colorado-Portland State game will be broadcast on ESPN+ and KOA 850 AM.
