(KRON) -- A 3.0-magnitude earthquake shook the East Bay Tuesday night, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. The epicenter was 2.6 miles southeast of San Ramon. The late-night earthquake, which occurred at 10:11 p.m., was the second quake above a 3.0 magnitude to be felt in the San Ramon Valley on Tuesday. A 3.1-magnitude earthquake jolted the region at 5:52 a.m. The Calaveras Fault near San Ramon has been particularly active in recent months, with more than 10 minor earthquakes registered on Dec. 8. Retired USGS Geologist David Schwartz told KRON4 that due to the location of the quakes being away from a major fault line, it is unlikely that a quake stronger than a magnitude 5 would occur in this specific area.
