Police: East Germantown double shooting leaves 1 man dead, another hospitalized
Dec 17, 2025
One man has died and a second was critically injured, officials said, after a shooting that happened early Wednesday in Philadelphia’s East Germantown community.
According to police, an investigation is underway after, officials said, a 36-year-old man walked into a Philadelphia hospital after
being injured in a shooting that, investigators believe, happened along the 1300 block of East Johnson Street, at about 12:40 a.m. on Wednesday.
The man, officials said, had been shot multiple times and was pronounced at the hospital at about 1:09 a.m.
At the scene of the shooting, responding officers found a 42-year-old man — with two handguns in his possession, officials claim — sitting in an SUV along the roadway after he had been shot, as well.
This man, officials said, was taken to a nearby hospital where he was listed in critical condition.
In talking to NBC10’s crew at the scene on Wednesday morning, Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small said that investigators recovered 11 shell casings from the area.
But, he said, police did not immediately determine a motive and have not identified any other suspects in this case.
Also, police did not immediately provide further information on the victims in this incident.
But, Small said, an investigation is ongoing.
As of Tuesday, Dec, 16, 2025, there were 209 reported homicides in Philadelphia so far this year, down more than 17% from the same time last year which ultimately saw the lowest number of homicides in a decade, according to police data.
This is a breaking news story. It will be updated as new information becomes available.
