Vice President JD Vance was in the Lehigh Valley on Tuesday on the heels of President Donald Trump’s visit to Pennsylvania as part of a one-two punch to get out their messaging ahead of the midterm elections.
During both visits, the President and VP had signs declaring “Lower Prices, Bigger
Paychecks” with VP Vance blaming Democrats and the Biden Administration for the current economy.
“If you look at every single affordability crisis that we talk about in the United States of America today, it’s because we inherited a nightmare of an economy from Joe Biden,” Vance said at Tuesday’s event. “I think in 11 months we have made great progress to making us a safer, a more secure and a more prosperous nation.”
A new NBC News Decision Desk poll powered by Survey Monkey shows that the economy as the top issue among adults surveyed in Pennsylvania where 62% also said the country is on the wrong track.
“We got used to the high prices but it’s going to come down next year. It takes time to turn things around. It’s not going to happen overnight,” Lenny Kosciolek told NBC10 at Tuesday’s event.
Pennsylvania State Senator Greg Rothman is the chair of the state’s Republican party and says that the commonwealth is the most important state in the country.
“A lot of building the economy is about attitude too right? Consumer confidence and the president being here and vice president being here talking about what’s going on, that wages are going up, that inflation is under control and it’s also making sure people feel that but also they know that too,” Sen. Rothman explained.
Vance pointed to a path to lower costs.
“If we lower the price of energy, we lower the price of groceries and we lower the price of gasoline and importantly we bring good jobs back into this country so that wages go up. That’s how you give people a shot at the American dream again,” he explained.
The commonwealth is a key swing state in presidential races, and now Democrats are looking to flip several seats in Pennsylvania including the one in the Lehigh Valley that Republican Congressman Ryan McKenzie won last year.
In response to the Vice President’s event on Tuesday, the Pennsylvania Democratic Party Chair Eugene DePasquale shared a statement that reads in part: “While Donald Trump and JD Vance keep trying to sell Pennsylvanians on their failing economy – with Stacy Garrity, Doug Mastriano and the entire Pennsylvania GOP cheering them on every step of the way – Pennsylvanians know the truth: Their reckless tariffs and cruel policies are driving up costs, hurting our farmers and local business and putting health care out of reach.”
