A Connecticut man was sentenced Tuesday to 50 years in prison for murdering a teenager in 2022, authorities announced. Frankie DeJesus, a 28-year-old Waterbury resident, was sentenced for the killing of 18-year-old William Beltran, also of Waterbury, on July 20, 2022, State’s Attorney John Doyle J r. said in a press release. “Whether such crime occurs in Waterbury or New Haven, the facts are no less tragic for our state,” Doyle said. “Mr. DeJesus, who had previous illegal firearms convictions, took a life with a firearm he was prohibited from possessing, and that choice carries with it a 50-year consequence.” Beltran was fatally shot outside a deli on Willow Street in Waterbury around midnight on the date of the murder. Cops found Beltran dead at the scene after responding to the report of shots fired. DeJesus was arrested five days later and has been behind bars ever since. Authorities said DeJesus was “dressed head-to-toe in all black” when he “physically hunted down” Beltran, but did not publicly elaborate on a motive. Surveillance cameras, cellphone evidence and ballistic evidence also tied DeJesus to the crime, according to authorities. He was convicted by a jury on Sept. 30.
