12-15-25-ComedySportz INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) –ComedySportz Indianapolis announced the kickoff of its holiday season, featuring the return of the fan-favorite “A Christmas Carol: Unscripted” and the debut of “Die Hard Chris tmas: An Improvised Parody.” Established in 1993, ComedySportz is now in its 33rd year and is the longest-running show in Indianapolis. The holiday programming will include weekly performances at the Witt Theater and will utilize audience suggestions to create unique comedy experiences. With a roster of around 40 professional improvisers, ComedySportz combines competition and comedy, where performers compete for the audience’s laughs. ComedySportz Indianapolis has been a staple in the local comedy scene since 1993, captivating audiences with its unique format that blends audience engagement with improvisational comedy. Co-artistic director Meg McClain highlighted that the performances are never the same, relying heavily on audience suggestions to shape the shows: “The audience drives kind of what Scrooge’s occupation is and how he is as a person.” The holiday theme features two major productions: the beloved “A Christmas Carol: Unscripted,” now in its 28th year and the new “Die Hard Christmas: An Improvised Parody.” McClain noted that the improvisers are adept at turning classic tales on their heads, which adds a fresh and humorous twist to familiar narratives. Performances take place weekly at the Witt Theater, located across from U-Indy, where ComedySportz offers a range of shows for both children and adults, making it accessible for diverse audiences. McClain emphasized the variety of events, stating, “We’ve got something going almost every night at the theater, from shows to classes to, oh my gosh, stand-up, all sorts of good things.” The team competition aspect of ComedySportz enhances the experience, as performers support one another while also aiming to impress the audience. McClain explained, “It’s all about making sure that hey no matter what you do out there I’m gonna make sure it’s supported and I know you’re gonna do the same for me.” This ensemble approach fosters a rich, collaborative atmosphere, which is a hallmark of improvisational comedy. The performances are complemented by food and drinks, creating an inviting event atmosphere rather than just a standard show. In a playful reference to holiday traditions, McClain asserted, “In our house, it is. In this house, it’s a Christmas movie,” underlining the warmth and hilarity that the shows promise for audiences this festive season. Tickets for the holiday shows are available for purchase, with a variety of performances scheduled through the holiday season.
