(KRON) -- A man accused of threatening several people with a box cutter in the parking lot of a San Rafael Home Depot on Sunday was arrested and charged, police said.
The San Rafael Police Department said it received multiple 911 calls around 10:45 a.m. reporting a man chasing and threatening peopl
e with a box cutter in the parking lot of the Home Depot at 111 Shoreline Parkway.
Officers responded immediately and located the suspect — 20-year-old Eduardo Garcia Hernandez of San Rafael — near the store entrance. Police said Hernandez initially refused to cooperate.

After several minutes of giving instructions and attempting de-escalation, Hernandez complied and was taken into custody. During the arrest, Hernandez spat on officers, who found a box cutter on him.
Investigators said Hernandez threatened and chased at least four people. In one instance, a victim fled on foot while Hernandez pursued him. Another victim got into his car and helped the person being chased. Hernandez then vandalized the car with the box cutter, according to police.
Authorities said a store employee intervened and prevented Hernandez from entering the store before officers arrived.
“The employee’s actions likely saved other people from being attacked by Hernandez,” police said.
Hernandez was booked into Marin County Jail on several charges, including felony assault with a deadly weapon and vandalism. No one was stabbed or injured, and police said the victims did not know Hernandez.
The motive for the attack remains unclear.
