MADISON COUNTY — Community Action Partnership for Madison County (CAP) has named Manlius resident William Nicholson as its next executive director, effective Jan. 1, 2026. Established in 1986, CAP is a non-profit dedicated to addressing the needs of individuals and families facing economic challen ges. Through a range of programs and services, the organization strives to empower the community and promote lasting positive change. With a service area that includes Madison County, as well as certain programs operating in Herkimer County, Oneida County, and Chenango County, CAP serves approximately 6,300 individuals annually. The organization’s board of directors announced Nicholson’s appointment — following “a rigorous search and evaluation” — in a Dec. 5 press release. “I am humbled to be selected to lead this important organization, this vital and indispensable community asset, into the future,” Nicholson said in the press release. “It is a great privilege to continue serving the community side by side with the incredible staff at CAP who show up every day to make good on our mission: to partner with individuals, families, and children to address the challenges of today and build hope for the future.” Nicholson has been serving at CAP since 2022 in the role of community services director. During that time, he has overseen agency strategic planning, community-wide data analysis and needs assessment, and the continuous development of impactful collaborations with key stakeholders throughout the region. According to CAP Executive Assistant Danielle Duffy, the executive director is the public face of the organization and is responsible for day-to-day operations. Working in concert with the board of directors, the executive director provides vision, leadership, and strategic direction for the organization. “The board is excited to welcome William as the new executive director,” said CAP Board President Sarah Chesebro-Casscles. “William’s knowledge of CAP and his community-centered experience are what are necessary for meaningful impact in our community. His involvement in local initiatives, partnerships, and programs shows that he understands the county’s needs, strengths, and long-term goals. This commitment ensures his approach in the role is not just a job, but an opportunity to support the well-being and growth of the residents we serve. William’s established relationships across the county, including with community leaders, organizations, and stakeholders, allow him to collaborate effectively and build trust. His connections will continue to bridge gaps, foster cooperation, and drive initiatives forward for our agency.” Nicholson will take over the executive director position from Elizabeth Crofut, who is retiring after seven years of service to the organization. She spent 3.5 years in the executive director role. “During Liz’s time as executive director, she has increased overall agency revenue by $2 million, brought in new resources for Madison County residents, such as our Healthy Homes repair program, and led the agency out of the pandemic,” said Duffy. “Her career spans over 25 years of service in the non-profit field.” For more information about CAP and its initiatives, visit capmadco.org or call 315-697-3588. ...read more read less
