RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- An inmate died at Richmond City Justice Center on Sunday, according to the Richmond City Sheriff's Office. The inmate died on Dec. 14, according to the Richmond City Sheriff's Office announcement on Dec. 15. Officials said that, as of reporting, the cause of death was unkno wn and would be determined by the Office of the Medical Examiner. The inmate's name and details of the incident will not be disclosed, per policy, according to the sheriff's office. Another inmate at Richmond City Justice Center died back in June with an unknown cause of death. Another inmate died prior to that, on March 9. No further details on either incident have been shared by the sheriff's office. From 2022 through 2024, Richmond City Justice Center recorded a total of seven inmate deaths, according to a review released in July 2025 by the Virginia Board of Local and Regional Jails. ...read more read less
