A Lewisville police officer is on administrative leave after being arrested Friday and charged with sexual assault of a child.
Lewisville Police Chief Brook Rollins said 32-year-old Zacur Vargas was taken into custody in Heath after someone called 911 at about 6 a.m. Friday, and reported seeing h
im involved in sexual activity in a public place with a 16-year-old.
“These allegations are extremely serious and deeply concerning,” Rollins said. “As the facts are established, we will respond decisively in a manner that reflects our responsibility to the community.”
Rollins stated that Zacur Vargas was off duty, not in uniform, and was not engaged in any Lewisville Police Department business at the time of the incident.
Vargas was booked into the Rockwall County Jail on a charge of sexual assault of a child. He has since bonded out, and it’s unclear whether he has retained an attorney to speak on his behalf.
The Lewisville Police Department said Internal Affairs opened an investigation immediately after Vargas’ arrest and that he was placed on administrative leave pending the completion of the investigation. The criminal investigation is being done by the Heath Department of Public Safety and authorities in Rockwall County.
Vargas has been employed with the Lewisville Police Department since May 2025 and was assigned to the Patrol Division.
