Frigid start to workweek
Dec 15, 2025
Brr! Many of us across the WCCB Charlotte viewing area are waking up to the coldest temperatures we’ve dealt with in nearly two years this Monday morning; lows have dipped into the teens and single digits across the board. Dangerous wind chills are slicing through the High Country as feels-like
temperatures have fallen to -10° to -20° above 3000′. The good news is that the cold snap won’t last long – sunny skies and southwesterly winds will bring much warmer air back into the Carolinas by midweek. After struggling to clear the 20s and 30s across the board this Monday afternoon, highs will rise near 60° around the Metro on Wednesday.
The back half of the week looks even warmer. Afternoon temperatures will soar into the mid-60s across the Piedmont and Foothills on Thursday ahead of an expansive storm system. The best rain chances we’ve seen in nearly two weeks arrive on Friday as a cold front pushes in from the west. Widespread showers and thunderstorms are in the forecast for our final day of the workweek, and we’ll want to stay weather-wise for a low-end, wind-driven severe threat as we roll into the weekend. The weekend ahead may get off to a chilly start on the back end of Friday’s cold front, but temperatures look to quickly recover on Sunday, although some scattered rain chances may return as we head into Santa’s big week.
