Brutal cold tonight then midweek rain and thaw | Dec 14, 2025

Dec. 14 | Evening Forecast with Meteorologist Drew Narsutis
TONIGHT
Partly cloudy and dangerously cold, lows near zero to a couple degrees below, with a light west northwest wind around 5 mph. Wind chills drop close to 1
0 below in many neighborhoods, so this is another night where exposed skin can get into trouble quickly and any remaining damp spots will freeze solid.
TOMORROW
Sunny but still very cold to start, then a slow step in the right direction. Morning wind chills run between 5 and 10 below, then highs climb into the mid 20s by afternoon with a south-southwest breeze around 10 to 15 mph and gusts up to around 30 mph. It stays dry and bright, which helps road and sidewalk clearing, but it will still feel like the teens if you are out for long.
TOMORROW NIGHT
Partly cloudy and cold, lows in the upper teens, a southwest wind around 5 mph. We lose some of the wind chill sting compared to the last couple of nights, but it is still a solid freeze, so any daytime melt refreezes into slick spots by daybreak Tuesday.
TUESDAY
A noticeably milder feel, sunny with highs in the mid 30s, a south wind around 5 to 10 mph. This is when you really start to feel the thaw, with more steady melting of the snowpack on roads, driveways, and sidewalks, even though the air still has a winter bite if you are in the shade.
TUESDAY NIGHT
Partly cloudy and not nearly as harsh, lows in the low 30s, a southwest wind around 10 mph with gusts up to the upper teens. Temperatures stay near or just above freezing for many spots, so roads are mainly just damp as clouds begin to thicken ahead of the next system.
WEDNESDAY
Partly sunny and seasonably cool, highs in the low 40s, a southwest breeze around 5 to 10 mph. It is a much more manageable day with continued melting and mainly dry weather for most of the daylight hours, a good window for cleanup from the snow and getting things ready before the next round of wet weather.
WEDNESDAY NIGHT
Clouds increase with rain chances arriving after midnight, lows in the mid 30s, a south southeast wind around 10 to 15 mph with gusts up to the mid 20s. Showers move in from the southwest, and most spots are above freezing, so it is plain rain and wet pavement rather than ice.
THURSDAY
A wet, milder day with periods of rain, highs in the low to mid 50s, a south wind around 15 mph shifting west southwest later with gusts near 30 mph. This will be the warmest day of the stretch, and between the rain and the breeze you will notice the snowpack shrinking quickly, with slushy, puddled conditions by afternoon.
THURSDAY NIGHT
Turning colder again behind the front, partly cloudy with lows in the low 20s, a west wind around 10 mph and higher gusts early. Any leftover showers end quickly in the evening, and a fresh push of colder air refreezes standing water and slush into icy patches by Friday morning.
7 DAY FORECAST
Central Indiana trades today’s brutal arctic air for a slow, steady thaw through midweek, then another shot of colder air on the backside of a wet system. After tonight’s near zero temperatures and subzero wind chills, Monday stays very cold but sunny with a bit of improvement, then highs climb into the 30s Tuesday and the low 40s Wednesday as south winds take over. Showers move in late Wednesday night, with a milder, rainy-day Thursday that pushes highs into the 50s and chews away at the snowpack. Behind that front, colder and drier air returns for Friday and next weekend, with highs dropping back into the 30s and lows in the 20s. Confidence is high in the dangerous cold tonight and Monday morning, the midweek warmup into the 40s and 50s, and the wet late Wednesday night through Thursday period, then solid but a bit lower in the exact timing and strength of the cooldown that follows.
