Largely reserve lineup delivers secondplace finish for Robbinsville wrestling at Ewing Tournament
Dec 13, 2025
EWING — When you consider the teams that were in the competition, the second-place showing in Saturday’s Ewing Wrestling Tournament by a Robbinsville team expected to have a very good year might look like a disappointment for the Ravens.
As the adage goes, looks can be deceiving because Robbinsv
ille arrived at the Blue Devils’ gym missing many of its top wrestlers.
“It’s a bout limit thing,” said Robbinsville coach Dan Hughes after his team finished well behind tourney champion Cinnaminson. “We entered the Sam Cali (Holiday) Tournament (in Morristown) this year and wanted to save our bouts for there. This (the Ewing Tournament) is a good chance for some of our (back-up) guys to get out there and show what they can do. The team is having fun.”
Robbinsville might very well have won the tournament with its regular lineup, but did manage to still produce three individual champions.
One was 106-pounder Pierce Cicero, who decked his Cinnaminson opponent in :29 seconds in his final.
The other two were near the opposite end of the lineup as Tony Migliaccio managed to prevail at 190 pounds and Anthony Inverso emerged on top at 215.
Migliaccio won by major decision over Justin Rodriguez of Trenton and Inverso won a 10-8 war over Luke Weigle of Ewing.
In other results, Trenton came in third with two champions.
Jan Bassat captured the 126-pound weight class when he won in sudden victory over Joseph Ciccia of Robbinsville and the Tornadoes also got gold from Nazir Scott-Hayes at 175. Scott-Hayes won a wild 13-11 bout over Cinnaminson’s Jayon Wescott in his final.
Although it finished in the fifth and final position in the team standings, host Ewing did have two bright spots at the end of the tournament. In addition to Weigle’s second at 215, the Blue Devils’ Cephus Horton topped Robbinsville’s Nicco Cuevas-Gould, 16-11, in the heavyweight championship bout. You can be sure the regular Robbinsville lineup will be on the mat Tuesday. And the reason for that is the Ravens will host powerhouse and defending state champion Delaware Valley that evening.
