RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Community members and LEGO enthusiasts in the area had the chance to celebrate the holiday joy on Saturday, one block at a time. Hosted by the LEGO Group, the Build to Give holiday campaign took place on Saturday, Dec. 13, at the Children's Museum of Richmond. The communit y-building event welcomed attendees, young and old, to build and photograph their LEGO brick creations. The initiative looks to spread holiday joy and bring the power of play to children in hospitals, care homes and vulnerable communities around the world, organizers said. Everybody learns through play. Children of all ages can learn something new through the power of play," said executive director Danielle Rippleton with the museum. Rippleton said hundreds of children and families came out to the event. Together, they built more than 150 LEGO hearts. "For each heart that we build, we donate a set," said Jesus Ibanez, general manager of LEGO Manufacturing Virginia. Since 2017, the campaign has donated LEGO sets to more than 11 million children in need of play around the world.
