A new development in Alamo Heights will soon give a former Nix Health building a shot in the arm. The well-known 5307 Broadway building, named for its address, is being converted into a mixed-use hub anchored by two new restaurants.A webpage for the project describes the dining options, but doesn’ t divulge the names or any associated chefs. One is “an East Coast-inspired oyster and martini bar with American cuisine, open for lunch and dinner,” and the other is a “New Orleans-style chophouse with a menu focused on prime steaks, Gulf seafood, and classic cocktails.”The second level is a little less mouthwatering, mostly featuring office suites. The largest is a 6,870-square-foot private space outfitted with meeting rooms, a “luxury lounge,” and a hospitality-focused kitchen equipped with a cold brew tap.The familiar building has been vacant since 2019, when Nix Health’s parent company, Prospect Medical Holdings, pulled out of the San Antonio market, citing declining demand. According to the San Antonio Business Journal, local real estate firm Ridgemont Properties originally sought another medical provider to fill the space. As it sits now, the 1965 building looks more like a clinic than a future Alamo Heights haunt. But renderings for the project show a much warmer space with brick cladding, slatted wood, and a central landscaped atrium that retains the most distinctive feature, the grid at the central facade.According to recently filed paperwork with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, the $6.5 million renovations are set to begin in February 2026 with a planned completion date in November 2026. A request for more accurate information was not returned by publication time. ...read more read less
