The Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General filed a lawsuit against the popular restoration service company Philadelphia Salvage. On Friday, Dec. 12, Pennsylvania Attorney General Dave Sunday announced the lawsuit which accuses the Philadelphia-based company and its owner Christopher Stock of fai ling to complete their work, which mostly consisted of restoring antiques and heirloom household fixtures. According to the lawsuit, the company entered into contracts with consumers, failed to perform the work and refused to refund customers. Officials said consumers suffered around $20,000 in loss as a result. The lawsuit seeks restitution for the alleged victims and also calls for Stock and the company to no longer operate in Pennsylvania. It also calls for the company to pay civil penalties of $1,000 for each violation of the Pennsylvania Unfair Trade Practices and Consumer Protection Law and $3,000 for every violation involving a consumer 60 years of age or older. “Consumers paid for services to restore precious items, and this company not only failed to perform the work, they refused to provide refunds,” Attorney General Sunday said. “This lawsuit makes clear that contracts are binding and must be honored — or my office will take action on behalf of Pennsylvanian consumers.” Anyone who believes they were victimized by Philadelphia Salvage should file a complaint with the Office of Attorney General online. In an article that was published in September 2023, Stock told the Philadelphia Inquirer that his company had gone bankrupt. The Inquirer also reported at the time that customers had filed complaints with the state accusing Philadelphia Salvage of bilking them of deposits and failing to return property. The Philadelphia Salvage website is currently down and reddit users claimed 10 months ago that the company had closed.
