The Salvation Army Delaware is calling on the community to help ensure hundreds of children in need have a gift to open this holiday season. The organization’s Angel Tree Program provides toys and gifts to families in need, and this year, officials said 856 families, representing 1,805 children , have signed up for assistance.  Despite donations so far, the Salvation Army shared that they are still in urgent need of 2,110 toys by Monday, December 15, for 422 children ages 0 to 12. The organization especially needs toys for boys and girls ages 9 to 12. The monetary equivalent of the 422 is $50,640, or roughly $120 per child.  “No child should be forgotten at Christmas,” said Captain Cristina Spencer of The Salvation Army Wilmington Corps. “We need community members, local businesses, and civic groups to step up, adopt angels, and donate unwrapped gifts right away.” Salvation Army listed ways you can spread holiday cheer and help: Adopt an Angel• Visit an Angel Tree at Christiana Mall or participating local retailers and pick up a tag – Deadline December 15.• Purchase gifts based on the child’s age and wish list.• Return unwrapped gifts with tags to any Angel Tree drop-off location at The Salvation Army Wilmington Corps – 105 W. 5th Street by December 15. Corporate Group Sponsorship• Local companies and civic organizations are encouraged to sponsor multiple angels or coordinate a gift drive to make an even greater impact.
