Sanders are out in Pierre; Drivers still urged to use caution
Dec 12, 2025
Dec. 12, 2025:
Pierre Street crews began sanding at 5a.m., but city officials are reminding the public to use caution on all roads Friday (Dec. 12, 2025) because of icy travel conditions. Additionally, Pierre residents are reminded that sidewalk snow removal is the responsibility of the adjacent pro
perty owner.
Because of scheduling adjustments, the Pierre’s Thursday garbage collection route is being collected Friday. If collection does not occur as expected, Pierre will let the public know. As a reminder, city-purchased garbage bags can be taken to the Pierre Solid Waste Facility at any time during operating hours, free of charge. The facility is open Monday through Friday from 8a.m. to 5p.m., and Saturday from 9a.m. to 1p.m.
There’s potential for more snowfall beginning Friday afternoon and continuing into Saturday morning, with forecasted totals currently being up to 5 inches. Street crews will plow accordingly until all streets in Pierre are fully open. Once priority routes are cleared, crews will begin widening roadways, applying salt to hills and slick areas, and addressing additional problem spots throughout the community. Drivers are asked to not park vehicles on Emergency Snow Routes so plows can safely and efficiently clear the streets.
