Man found guilty-as-charged for deadly crime spree in 2021
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A 30-year-old Indianapolis man has been found guilty-as-charged for the murder of Dezmond King and multiple other crimes that began in August 2021.
The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office on Thursday announced
that a Marion County jury convicted Terri Young-Moses of murder, three counts of unlawful possession of a serious violent felon, armed robbery, and two counts of criminal confinement after a three-day trial.
On Aug. 8, 2021, Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers were called to an apartment in the 5800 block of Sebring Court on a report of shots fired. Officers arrived and observed bullet holes in the exterior wall of the apartment complex and met with a resident, who had a bullet travel through her bedroom wall.
Investigators reviewed the apartment complex’s security footage, which showed Young-Moses and his girlfriend near their residence. At some point, the woman gets into a vehicle, and it appears an argument breaks out between the two. Eventually, the woman pulls away and parks closer to the scene where the shooting occurred. Young-Moses goes back into their residence before returning a short time later and running toward the woman’s parked vehicle. As Young-Moses approaches, he fires multiple shots at the car. During the incident, a bullet can be seen striking the exterior of the apartment building on the security footage.
On Nov. 9, 2021, IMPD officers were called to the scene of an armed robbery of a man who was attempting to meet someone he met through a dating app. When he arrived at the meet-up spot, Young-Moses approached the vehicle, got into the passenger seat, pointed a firearm at his head, and demanded money. The defendant then went through the victim’s backpack before fleeing the scene.
On Nov. 26, 2021, IMPD officers were called back to an apartment in the 5800 block of Sebring Court, where they found King dead after suffering from gunshot wounds. When investigators reviewed the security footage, they were able to see an individual dressed in black leave Young-Moses’ residence and approach the back patio of the residence where King was killed.
Forensic firearm testing was able to link the shell casings of these incidents to the same firearm. During a search warrant of the defendant’s residence, they were able to locate that firearm, ammunition, and items belonging to the robbery victim. Young-Moses’ DNA was found on the firearm.
