Heavy evening snow then a bitter weekend | Dec. 11, 2025
Dec 11, 2025
Drew thursday am
THURSDAY
Clouds thicken through the morning with light snow or flurries developing toward midday, then snow becoming steadier by mid to late afternoon. Highs reach the low 30s, with an east to northeast breeze around 10 to 15 mph. Roads will start out just wet, but condit
ions deteriorate quickly late day as snow intensity ramps up into the evening rush.
THURSDAY NIGHT
Periods of moderate to at times heavier snow this evening, tapering to lighter snow and flurries after midnight. Lows dip into the mid 20s, a north northeast wind around 10 to 15 mph keeps wind chills in the teens. By sunrise, central Indiana, including Indianapolis, should see roughly 2 to 4 inches of snow with locally higher totals possible, 1 to 2 inches north and south of the core band, and under an inch far southwest. Expect slick, snow-covered roads, reduced visibility, and tricky travel for the late evening and early Friday commute.
FRIDAY
Cloudy and cold with lingering light snow showers or flurries, mainly through the morning. Temperatures hover in the low 30s most of the day, with a northwest wind around 10 to 15 mph. No big additional accumulation is expected, but any new dusting on top of the overnight snow plus refreeze keeps side streets and untreated lots slick into the afternoon.
FRIDAY NIGHT
Clouds gradually break with a sharp push of arctic air. Lows fall into the single digits, and a northwest wind around 10 mph sends wind chills below zero at times. This is the start of a very cold stretch, and it will be one of the more dangerous nights for exposed skin, pets, and anyone without proper winter gear.
SATURDAY
Bright but bitter. Skies turn mostly sunny, but highs only recover into the mid teens, with a northwest wind around 10 to 15 mph. Wind chills stay near or below zero much of the day, so limit time outside and dress in multiple layers for any extended outdoor activities.
SATURDAY NIGHT
Mostly clear and brutally cold, lows near the single digits with some spots close to zero, a light northwest breeze around 5 to 10 mph. Wind chills easily drop below zero again overnight, so plan for another night of true arctic cold and watch for refreeze on any remaining slushy or wet patches.
SUNDAY
Still very cold, though the pattern starts a slow, subtle climb. Expect partly sunny skies with highs in the upper teens to near 20 and a light west wind around 5 to 10 mph. Roads should be in better shape, but it will still feel like the single digits at times during the morning.
SUNDAY NIGHT
Partly cloudy and very cold, lows back in the single digits, light and variable wind. Quiet but bitter conditions close the run with another frigid start on tap for early next week.
7 DAY FORECAST
Today’s winter system lays down a swath of 2 to 4 inches of snow across central Indiana with 1 to 2 inches north and south, followed by a prolonged blast of arctic air. Highs slide from the low 30s Friday into the teens this weekend, and lows fall into the single digits with subzero wind chills Friday night and Saturday night. Early next week brings a gradual, modest warm-up but still below normal temperatures, and another series of quick-moving clipper systems midweek may bring a few more light snow showers and fresh shots of cold air. Confidence is high in the accumulating snow tonight and the dangerous cold Friday night through the weekend, and moderate on the exact timing and amounts with the next midweek clipper or two.
