A 31-year-old man was killed and a 37-year-old woman seriously hurt in a shooting early Thursday in the Calumet Heights neighborhood. At about 2:40 a.m. in the 9200 block of South Merrill Avenue the woman was standing in her backyard when she heard gunshots and felt pain, and realized she was shot i n the thigh and back, police said. Then, police found another victim in the 9100 block of South Merrill Avenue, a man who was dead on the scene. Fire department paramedics treated the woman and took her to the University of Chicago Medical Center in serious condition.
