SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) -- A Bay Area airport has received a top international architecture and design award. Terminal 1 at San Francisco International Airport received the World Title
for Airports in UNESCO's prestigious Prix Versailles awards.

"We are truly honored to be named the top airport in the world by Prix Versailles," said SFO Airport Director Mike Nakornkhet. "Harvey Milk Terminal 1 was designed to establish a new benchmark for an extraordinary airport experience, bringing to life our mission to put people and planet first."
Prix Versailles' 2025 World Titles honors outstanding achievements in architecture and interior design. Apart from airports, other categories recognized this year include campuses, passenger stations, sports arenas, museums, emporiums, hotels, and restaurants.
"Each year, the Prix Versailles challenges us to look beyond aesthetics alone and to evaluate architecture and design as a force capable of shaping the world we inhabit," said 2025 World Jury Chairperson Irina Bokova.
In the airport category, Portland International Airport received this year's Special price for an Exterior. The only other California location among this year's honors was the Intuit Dome in Inglewood, which received Special prize for an Interior in the sports category.
Other airports honored included Yantai Penglai International Airport in China, the Marseille Provence and Roland Garros airports in France, and the Kansai International Airport in Japan.
