Poodle stolen in San Mateo, suspected dognapper arrested

(KRON) – A masked suspect allegedly stole a poodle and fled in a vehicle before being apprehended, according to the San Mateo Police Department.
SMPD responded to a report of a dog being stolen in the area of Hayward Avenue and Palm Avenue on Dec. 8 at 9:05 a.m.

The victim said she was walking her daughter’s dog when a masked suspect approached her from behind, picked up the leashed canine and attempted to pull the dog away, according to police.
Authorities said that the pulling action caused the victim to fall, and the suspect was able to unhook the dog’s leash before fleeing with the poodle into a nearby vehicle.

Officers used witness statements to determine the vehicle’s location and initiate a traffic stop on Highway 101, just north of Marsh Road. David Frankausher, a 33-year-old San Diego resident, was arrested for second-degree robbery, according to SMPD.
Police said the canine was transported safely back to their family.
SMPD determined that the attempted theft was a targeted incident involving known parties.
