Obi Toppin gives back for Christmas INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Pacers forward Obi Toppin traded in his practice gear for a shopping cart Sunday, taking 10 kids from the Boys Girls Club of Indianapolis on a holiday shopping spree at Dick’s Sporting Goods in Castleton. Each child received a $15 0 gift card from Dick’s, and Toppin added another $100 of his own for each kid. Toppin teamed up with the children, acting as their “personal shopping consultant.” “With Christmas coming up, being able to come here and give some of the kids money for the holidays is always great,” Toppin said. “Having that opportunity is amazing.” For many families, the experience means more than what ends up in the cart. “During the holidays, I am always so humbled by the community,” said Maggie A. Lewis, CEO of the Boys Girls Club of Indianapolis. “They make sure that our kiddos have everything they need.” The kids told News 8 the experience was unforgettable. Many arrived with plans for the shoes, hoodies, and sweatpants they hoped to pick out. “Obviously, I’m a Jordan athlete. So, we are rocking all Jordans,” Toppin said. “I’ll bring them to the Jordan wall, just give them a good time, and have fun.” Toppin says events like this reflect the Pacers’ core values and show the team’s commitment to standing with the community, especially during the holidays. ...read more read less
