Would you be willing to spend $9 to witness a coronation? Maybe $7? $6 — and that’s a final offer. Tickets early on the morning of Dec. 6 on Stubhub.com were going for as low as $6 for upper deck seats in Huntington Bank Field when the 1-11 Titans visit the 3-9 Browns on Dec. 7. The forecast cal ls for a brisk 33 degrees with a chance of snow showers at the 1 p.m. kickoff. The Browns are playing for pride, the opportunity for Shedeur Sanders to take another step while making his third start and for a chance to be a part of history. Myles Garrett has 19 sacks — already a Browns franchise record. He needs four more to break the record of 22.5 set by Michael Strahan of the Giants in 2001 in 16 games and tied by T.J. Watt of the Steelers in 17 games in 2021. The record-breaking sack is so highly anticipated that Earth might stop spinning on its axis temporarily to recognize the event. At the least, the game might be halted so Strahan can congratulate Garrett in a prerecorded message on the scoreboard jumbotron, back slaps and handshakes to follow. “I’ll go for four, but I respect that team over there and what they can do,” Garrett said on Dec. 5. “So, I have to make sure we stop the run and earn four opportunities, in which I can make that happen.” Garrett was named Defensive Player of the Month for November. He had nine sacks in four games plus four additional tackles for loss. He had five sacks in the final game in October in a 32-13 loss to the Patriots. To say Garrett is an overwhelming favorite to be named Defensive Player of the Year is a colossal understatement. His odds are at minus-1800, according to Betonline.org. That means a bettor would have to wager $1,800 to win $100. Garrett revealed he set a goal of 25 sacks. Conveniently, the Titans have given up a league-most 48 sacks. Rookie Cam Ward, the first pick in the 2025 draft, has felt the bruises of each one of them. “I set that goal three years ago for myself,” Garrett said. “I had a dream, or I had that written on my tape that I was going to get 25. I feel like that was just meant to be. After 25, I’m just going to write something else.” A Major League pitcher always credits his catcher when he throws a no-hitter. Likewise, Garett credits defensive tackles Mason Graham and Maliek Collins, plus others, for the best season of his career. This will be the first game of 2025 Garrett has played without Collins lined up inside. Collins suffered a season-ending quad injury in the game with the 49ers last week. “It’s all thanks to my teammates,” Garrett said. “I wouldn’t be here in the position I’m in to even challenge the record without them. Those guys have helped elevate my game, and hopefully I’ve helped elevate them as well. The level of chemistry and synergy that we’ve been rolling with, we’ve really been playing up to our potential.” Those same teammates are pulling for Garrett to break the record. If he doesn’t set a new mark on Dec. 7, he might do it Dec. 14 in Chicago. He would prefer to do it in front of the home crowd. “I said it last week,” Graham said. “I’ve missed sacks and they’ve gone to him. So I always joke with him saying, ‘At least it’s going to a good cause.’ He’s getting closer to the record. I couldn’t care less about me getting sacks as long as he gets the record.” Collins is second among Browns defenders with 6.5 sacks. No one else has more than three.
