Global girl group KATSEYE brings viral moves in Bay Area debut at soldout SF show

SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) -- KATSEYE made a striking "Debut" in San Francisco.
The global girl group kicked off its first Bay Area show with that song as thousands inside a sold-out Bill Graham Civic Auditorium screamed to the top of their lungs.
Much like the Bay Area itself, KATSEYE’s diversity shi
nes — mirrored by its global fanbase, the “Eyekons.”
The six members have backgrounds from all over the world. The Americans — Daniela, Lara and Megan — have Venezuelan/Cuban, Indian and Chinese/Singaporean roots, respectively. Manon was born to Swiss-Italian and Ghanaian parents. Yoonchae was born in Korea. Sophia is from the Philippines.
There were little girls in the crowd who looked up to the stage and felt inspired that their favorite pop star looks like them. Daniela even greeted the crowd with a “¡Hola San Francisco!” Lara gave a shoutout to all the South Asians and brown folks in the crowd.
Sophia, greeted by several Philippine flags in the crowd, felt like she was right at home in the Bay Area.
“Eyekons, there’s something about you all that makes me feel like I’m home. I can see a lot of people out here that look like me,” Sophia said. “There’s so many people here representing and allowing us to continue to do what we’ve intended to do from the start, which is to represent (our cultures).”

KATSEYE returned to the home city of Gap, the denim company in which they released an ad that went viral in September. During Act 1, they even performed the viral “Milkshake” dance, which has been viewed more than 400 million times, as the centerpiece of Gap’s “Better in Denim” campaign.
KATSEYE ended Act 1 with “Gabriela” and included the iconic extended dance break as Megan, Yoonchae and Daniela show off their athleticism by cartwheeling across the stage. The extended dance break first gained traction back in August after their Lollapalooza performance.
The best was saved for last.
Act 2 ended with the catchy/cringe (depending on who you ask) “Gnarly,” which is one of the group's biggest hits to date.
KATSEYE turned up the energy with the dance breaks during the song’s “na, na, na, na, Gnarly” parts, and the crowd followed. The hyped crowd knew the words, and thousands sang along.
The encore of “Touch” and “My Way” concluded the roughly 80-minute set. "Touch" remains KATSEYE's biggest hit with 215 million YouTube views and 544 million Spotify streams. The girls explained "My Way" as being the song that encapsulates their journey as a group since forming on a Netflix show two years ago.
The show on Friday was the first of two sold-out concerts at Bill Graham. KATSEYE performs another sold-out show in the same venue Saturday, then heads to Seattle next Tuesday.
