Judge denies sentence reduction for South Bay convicted killer
Dec 05, 2025
A convicted killer in the South Bay who was pushing for a chance to get released from prison at some point will remain behind bars.
Erik Chatman was sentenced to death in 1987 for murdering Rosellina Lo Bue. The district attorney three years ago asked a judge to remove the death sentence in light
of the governor ordering a halt to executions.
The judge reduced Chatman’s sentence to life without parole.
On Friday, the district attorney petitioned to reduce the sentence even further to 25 to life, which would have made parole a possibility.
But a judge ruled against another resentencing, which means Chatman will serve the rest of his life term without the possibility of parole.
