SMITHFIELD, R.I. (WLNE) — 27 people have been displaced after a Friday morning motel fire in Smithfield. The fire broke out on the second floor of the Alpine Motel at approximately 4 a.m., according to the Smithfield Fire Department. There were no injuries in the fire, but motel residents were evacuated into the 11 degree temperatures as crews worked to fire the fire.
