Thousands of people will line the streets of downtown Colorado Springs Saturday evening for the 41st Festival of Lights Parade. The parade will kick off at 5:50 p.m. with nearly 100 illuminated floats expected to participate. Participants will take the traditional route down Tejon Street, startin g at East Boulder Street and concluding outside the Colorado Springs Pioneers Museum at Vermijo Avenue. For the parade, Tejon Street will be closed as well as all of the intersecting side roads between Cache La Poudre and Costilla streets. A block of Tejon Street was still closed for construction Friday morning as part of a revitalization project. Parade organizers said crews would pause construction work and clear their equipment by the end of the day to allow the parade through. City spokesman Eric Sieger said the Tejon Street work had been delayed by snowy weather this week. Sieger said the remaining work to plant trees and set up traffic lights should be completed by Wednesday. The Pioneers Museum will host several events Saturday in the run-up to the parade. The Festival of Lights Family Fun Day will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. with all-ages crafts and displays. Starting at 3 p.m., the museum will be one of three spots hosting food trucks for the parade. Colorado Springs is offering free parking at three city-run garages downtown on Saturday: 215 N. Cascade Ave., 130 S. Nevada Ave. and 127 E. Kiowa St. ...read more read less
