FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO) — A Fort Wayne man has been sentenced to six years after admitting to firing multiple shots at a vehicle carrying his pregnant wife earlier this year. Michael Ward, 31, was originally charged with attempted murder, criminal recklessness, and unlawful carrying of a handgun f ollowing the April 17 incident. According to court documents, Ward’s wife was riding in an Uber when they passed Ward, who then fired three rounds at the vehicle. The gunfire shattered the rear window and flattened a tire. Neither the driver nor Ward’s wife was injured. Ward reportedly made a threatening statement to his wife hours before the shooting, which she interpreted as a threat to kill her. Last month, Ward accepted a plea agreement allowing him to plead guilty to criminal recklessness in exchange for the dismissal of the other charges. Allen Superior Court Judge Fran Gull sentenced him Thursday to six years executed, in line with the agreement. The deal also allows for the possibility that Ward may serve his sentence through Community Corrections rather than in prison, pending eligibility. Protective orders were issued Thursday for both victims.
