Siena University lacrosse coach Liam Gleason died this week at age 41, several days after suffering a serious fall at his home in Halfmoon, N.Y. Gleason died on Wednesday after sustaining a traumatic brain injury three days prior when he reportedly fell down a flight of stairs, according to the loca l Times Union. Gleason is survived by his wife, Jaclyn, and three children: daughter Kennedy and sons Penn and Tate. He was surrounded by family, friends and players on Wednesday before he was taken into surgery for organ donation. “It shows how even after this tragedy, he’s finding the good in it,” former player and current assistant coach Pratt Reynolds told ABC News 10. “Even though he did pass away, he is going to help some other lives. It truly is an amazing thing to find the good in something so bad.” After a standout playing career at the University at Albany, Gleason worked as an assistant lacrosse coach at Siena and his alma mater before taking the top job at the Franciscan university in 2018. “From a standout student-athlete to a dedicated member of the coaching staff, Liam poured his heart into the Capital Region lacrosse community and left an indelible mark on everyone he met,” UAlbany said in a statement. “His passion, leadership and friendship will be deeply missed.” Gleason, who was originally from Wading River, led the Siena Saints to the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference championship and the NCAA tournament this past season, his seventh at the Loudonville school. “A sudden, senseless loss carries a kind of pain that defies understanding,” Siena President Chuck Seifert said in a statement. “It’s hard to imagine anyone more universally loved and admired than Liam. Our community was blessed by Coach Gleason’s life.” A funeral will be held on Saturday at the UHY Center on Siena’s campus, according to school officials. A fundraiser set up to help support Gleason’s family had raised nearly $680,000 as of Thursday evening. ...read more read less
