(KRON) — People around the Bay Area received a fake earthquake warning from the U.S. Geological Survey’s ShakeAlert system Monday morning.
The USGS’s earthquake-warning system sent alerts for a 5.9-magnitude quake in Carson City, Nev. at 8:06 a.m. However, USGS has since retracted the alert,
saying that no earthquake actually occurred.

“The earthquake alerts that were delivered at 8:06 a.m. are cancelled,” the USGS wrote on its ShakeAlert social media account. “There was no M5.9 earthquake near Carson City, NV.”
