(KRON) — People around the Bay Area received a fake earthquake warning from the U.S. Geological Survey’s ShakeAlert system Monday morning. The USGS’s earthquake-warning system sent alerts for a 5.9-magnitude quake in Carson City, Nev. at 8:06 a.m. However, USGS has since retracted the alert, saying that no earthquake actually occurred. Here’s where to expect Christmas snow across the U.S., Old Farmer’s Almanac says “The earthquake alerts that were delivered at 8:06 a.m. are cancelled,” the USGS wrote on its ShakeAlert social media account. “There was no M5.9 earthquake near Carson City, NV.” The USGS is looking into the issue.
