The Homes of Mill Hill: A Living Tapestry of History and Holiday Tradition
Mill Hill’s nineteenth-century streetscape, one of the most distinctive between New York and Philadelphia, sets the stage for the 59th annual Mill Hill Holiday House Tour, hosted by the Old Mill Hill Society on Saturday, December 6, 2025, from 12 pm to 5 pm. This beloved Trenton tradition invites visitors inside more than 15 historic homes, each showcasing its own architectural character and festive holiday décor. Tickets are $20 and available in advance at trentonmillhill.org/events or the day of at Artworks, with ample free parking nearby.
The neighborhood’s homes tell a story that spans nearly two centuries. Early Federal and Greek Revival structures stand alongside ornate Victorian, Queen Anne, and Second Empire townhomes distinguished by mansard roofs, etched glass, stained glass, intricate millwork, pumpkin pine floors, plaster medallions, and decorative mantels. Many residences have been lovingly restored, some after decades of disrepair, while others have been reimagined with open interiors, skylit lofts, modern kitchens, sustainable technologies, and creative design elements that complement their historic bones. Together, they reflect the craftsmanship, diversity, and resilience that define Mill Hill.
This year’s tour highlights not only the homes but also the holiday magic that fills them. Visitors will encounter everything from multiple decorated trees to whimsical nutcracker collections, from curated gardens to warm cider and cookies shared in gracious parlors. Residents open their doors with indoor décor, cheerful conversation, and refreshments that showcase the neighborhood’s welcoming spirit. The festivities extend outdoors as well, featuring Santa and Mrs. Claus, food trucks, and mocktail tastings by Keep It Cordial.
