Iconic $5 buffet at San Francisco strip club returns after yearslong hiatus
Apr 15, 2025
SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) -- In today's world of tariffs, inflation and the high cost of living, it's hard to find a pro-consumer deal. However, a buffet in San Francisco's South of Market (SoMa) neighborhood fits that bill -- and then some.
The iconic $5 lunch buffet at Gold Club is back after a years-
long hiatus, the strip club announced on its website. Albeit unusual, this gentleman's club is the home of arguably the best "bang-for-your-buck" lunch deal you can get in San Francisco.
The all-you-can-eat buffet was officially reinstated on April 3, and the deal will be available every Thursday after that from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. They serve their city-renowned fried chicken with rice pilaf and a fruit salad. (Yes, it really is $5, which includes the cover to get in the venue, according to Gold Club's website.)
Gold Club cited government workers and tech employees returning to the office as a reason for the bargain buffet's return after a five-year break. Its famous lunch was forced to shut down when remote work took over during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020.

"Hey, San Francisco—guess what? Your favorite lunchtime deal is making a grand comeback! After years of patiently waiting (and drooling over the memories), we at Gold Club are thrilled to announce the return of our iconic $5 buffet," the establishment wrote. "That’s right—starting April 2025, the all-you-can-eat spread that put us on the map is back at 650 Howard Street, ready to satisfy your hunger and your soul.
"Let’s be real—$5 doesn’t buy much in 2025 San Francisco. Coffee’s pushing $6, and a sandwich can hit $15. But here at Gold Club, we’re sticking to our guns: the buffet is $5, cover included, no gimmicks."
Located at 650 Howard St. near Yerba Buena Gardens, Gold Club made national waves when Forbes did a feature in 2015, calling the strip club's buffet "Tech's Hottest Lunch Spot."
The establishment recommends patrons to arrive early as "those trays don't last long." Customers must use cash to pay the $5 price of admission for the buffet.
In the days where downtown San Francisco office workers are paying around $20 for a full meal during their lunch breaks, it's hard to find a meal that fills you up for that low of a price.
Granted, if you're an office worker in one of those nearby tech companies, you probably have more than $5 in your budget for lunch.
But, who doesn't like to save money?
Apparently, not those who eat lunch at Gold Club on Thursdays. ...read more read less
