VALLEY CENTER, Kan. (KSNW) - Around 150 chickens were lost in a fire on Tuesday. According to Valley Center Chief Lonnie Tormey, around 3:30 p.m., crews were dispatched to a reported barn fire in the 1300 block of S. Meridian Ave. in Valley Center. When crews arrived, they found a chicken coop fully engulfed in flames. By 3:50 p.m., it had been put under control. The coop housed around 200 chickens, but some managed to escape. The property owner lost approximately 150 chickens. The road was shut down while crews worked the scene. It has since been reopened. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
