After this morning's strong east canyon wind in Albuquerque died down late this morning, it's been a calmer afternoon with warm temperatures. Temperatures acr
oss the state today are sitting similar to where they were Monday. The biggest warm up has been in northeast New Mexico where winds are gusting over 40 mph. A few spotty rain showers and virga are possible through late this evening in western, central, and northern New Mexico before ending later tonight.
Breezy winds develop Wednesday afternoon with wind gusts as high as 40 mph in parts of the state. This will also bring in warmer temperatures with highs climbing as much as 5º to 15º over today. Higher winds will also cause a high fire danger across most of New Mexico Wednesday afternoon. Stronger winds develop Thursday afternoon when southwest winds will gust as high as 40 to 65 mph. This will bring another very high fire danger across the state with areas of blowing dust possible. High winds could also cause damage, like broken tree branches and downed power lines. High temperatures will be a few degrees cooler.
Windy weather will stick around southern New Mexico Friday afternoon. Isolated rain showers and mountain snow will start moving into northwest New Mexico Friday afternoon as a storm system starts moving into the state. Lower elevation rain and mountain snow will spread east across the northern half of the state through Saturday.
