8 Pawtucket firefighters at center of criminal investigation
Apr 15, 2025
PAWTUCKET, R.I. (WPRI) — The city of Pawtucket has taken action against eight firefighters as a result of an internal investigation into "possible criminal activity."
Chris Hunter, a spokesperson for the city, confirmed Tuesday that of those firefighters, four were fired and the other four chos
e to resign or apply for retirement.
Hunter said the investigation "has determined that these firefighters engaged in possible criminal activity result in violations of the public trust."
"We are unable to comment further at this time due to an ongoing criminal investigation being conducted in coordination with the Rhode Island Attorney General's Office," Hunter continued. "While these matters are serious and remain under investigation, it is important to emphasize that the actions of these firefighters do not reflect the dedication, integrity or professionalism of the Pawtucket Fire Department as a whole."

Hunter added that at no time was public safety at risk.
"The Pawtucket Fire Department is committed to providing a high level of care while maintaining full fire and emergency response services to our community," he concluded.
It's unclear exactly what the criminal investigation entails or if any charges have been filed. 12 News has reached out to the Rhode Island Attorney General's Office for more information.
