(WFRV) – The leader of a large armed drug trafficking organization in Wisconsin was sentenced to 15 years in federal prison last Friday.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Wisconsin, 25-year-old Azjuan Meriwether of Milwaukee was sentenced on April 11 for drug
and firearm offenses.

Court records indicate that Meriwether led an organization responsible for distributing at least 32 kilograms of fentanyl, 375 grams of para-fluorofentanyl, as well as methamphetamine, cocaine, and other narcotics. The group also engaged in firearms trafficking, including the sale of “ghost guns” and machinegun-conversion devices, also known as “switches.”
Ghost guns are privately made firearms assembled from kits that lack serial numbers, making them difficult to trace. Meriwether admitted in a plea agreement to the illegal sale of 18 firearms and six switches.
He was arrested in Indiana after leading law enforcement on a two-hour high-speed chase, during which he drove the wrong way on a highway. Officers later recovered heroin, approximately 165 grams of methamphetamine, and 29 grams of cocaine from his vehicle.
“The conduct at issue in this case presented layer upon layer of danger to the community,” said Acting U.S. Attorney Frohling. “This individual and his organization not only distributed dangerous, potentially lethal controlled substances but also further endangered others through the sale of switches and ghost guns.”
Authorities with the ATF, DEA, and Waukesha County Drug Task Force all praised the collaboration that led to Meriwether’s arrest and conviction, crediting it with dismantling a criminal network that had operated across state lines.

This prosecution was part of an Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETF) investigation, which uses a multi-agency approach to target top-level drug traffickers and criminal organizations.
Meriwether’s sentence marks a significant victory for law enforcement efforts aimed at reducing violent crime and drug trafficking in Wisconsin communities. ...read more read less
