BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) -- The Erie County SPCA rescued 22 small dogs from a Williamsville residence on Monday and Tuesday after they were found in deplorable conditions, the agency announced. Fourteen Shih Tzu-poodle mixes were rescued on Monday along with an additional eight on Tuesday. The SPCA s aid all of the dogs were covered in urine, feces and had impenetrable matted fur. "These animals came in severely matted," said Cait Daly, president and CEO of SPCA Serving Erie County. "We're talking some of them so bad that they had to be sedated and shaved — pounds and pounds of fur removed from some of these dogs." The dogs received medical treatment and were bathed. Without the extra fur, caretakers will be able to see if the dogs have any respiratory problems or other health issues. The owner of the dogs, whose name was not released, is cooperating with the ongoing investigation, the SPCA said. Anyone who wants to contribute to the care of the dogs can do so by clicking here.
