Berkeley Co. deputies seize two pounds of meth during traffic stop

BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – Two men were arrested Monday night after Berkeley County deputies conducted a traffic on a vehicle and discovered 911 grams or about two pounds of meth.
Agents with the Berkeley County Sheriff's Office Narcotics Task Force were conducting an investigation when the
y pulled over a vehicle connected to their investigation.
According to the sheriff's office, authorities 'observed indicators of criminal activity' when they made contact with the people in the vehicle.
The occupants, Ryan Carl Newman, 35, of Summerville, and Preston Goldie Long, 35, denied a consent search, so deputies deployed a K9 for a free air sniff.
Authorities found probable cause, and a vehicle search ensued. That is when deputies found the methamphetamine.
Newman is charged with trafficking methamphetamine 400 grams or more.
Long is charged with trafficking methamphetamine 400 grams or more and faces a probation violation charge from the South Carolina Department of Probation, Parole and Pardon Services.
"This is a significant seizure that highlights the dedication of our Narcotics Task Force and K-9 teams in combating the flow of dangerous narcotics into our communities," Berkeley County Sheriff Duane Lewis stated. "We remain committed to proactive drug enforcement and protecting our residents from the devastating impact of illegal drug trafficking."
The Berkeley County Narcotics Task Force consists of agents from the Berkeley County Sheriff's Office, Goose Creek Police Department, Hanahan Police Department, and Moncks Corner Police Department. ...read more read less
