(COLORADO SPRINGS) — The Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) arrested two people after they allegedly kidnapped their former roommate.
According to CSPD, at around 3:39 a.m. on Monday, April 14, an officer was dispatched to a Colorado Springs hospital regarding a kidnapping. Upon arrival,
the officer spoke to a victim who was kidnapped by their former roommate after "a ruse" to return property they left at their apartment.
The suspects, Damond and Susan Birky, allegedly drove around Colorado Springs and out to the county east of the airport. The victim attempted to escape the suspects' car, but one of them held a gun and told the victim they would be shot. Right before releasing the victim into the county, the suspects robbed them of the property they had on them and fired the gun into the air.
The victim ran to a nearby store and called 911. El Paso County Sheriff's Office (EPSO) initially responded but determined the kidnapping occurred within the city of Colorado Springs.
Police located the vehicle used in the kidnapping and the suspects' home. Arrest and search warrants were executed with the help of CSPD's Tactical Enforcement Unit, K9, and a UAS drone.
Damond and Susan Birky were both taken into custody. Police said all evidence supporting the kidnapping claims, including the gun, was located during the warrant. ...read more read less
