NEW MEXICO (KRQE) – East Canyon winds have picked up with some patchy blowing dust in the Metro as while clouds are plentiful, conditions are mostly dry at the surface, as despite still above-normal temperatures in the Rio Grande Valley to southern communities of New Mexico with many starting off in the 50s to the 60s, around-freezing temperatures are occurring from the northern mountains, with somewhat-gusty northeasterly winds in eastern areas that are drifting southward in parts of the northeast highlands, courtesy of a westward-moving cold front on the tail-end of more-unstable conditions in the Rocky Mountains. Forecast Continues Below Education: 'Distraction-Free Bill' to curb cell phone use in schools set to go into effect Crime: Santa Fe man accused of killing wife during an argument Resources: How New Mexico families can get money for groceries this summer As the cold front pushes farther to the west later this morning, that front will then stall later today west of the Rio Grande Valley, as with some moisture with the arrival of the front, in combination to clouds moving from the west with lower atmospheric pressure to the north, showers with rumbles of thunder will be more widespread in northern areas of the Rio Grande Valley, then through the Four Corners to the northern-mountain communities, but temperatures will remain mostly above normal despite many areas being a little bit cooler, but it'll be milder in the northeast highlands as south-southwesterly winds will return as most will range from the 60s to the low 80s, with cooler air in the mountains. Dry air with mostly warmer air will then rush in with the higher fire threat as more-widespread dust will be accompanied by potentially-damaging winds tomorrow into Thursday, but a push of even wetter conditions with cooler air will arrive by the end of the week into Easter Weekend with some rain for many, as well as some snowfall in the northern mountains. ...read more read less
