EDMOND, Okla. (KFOR) — A family in Edmond fears a contractor who was supposed to paint a brick wall in front of their home may have pocketed the money.
Lisa Shelton's parents hired Royal Roofing and Masonry LLC to come out and repaint the brick wall in front of their Edmond home.
"We underst
ood with my mother, that he they were coming out to repaint that front wall, and it was going to be a total $800, and they wanted 50% up front. So she wrote a check for $400," said Shelton.
Shelton said next thing she knows, her parents came home to find their brick wall torn down.
"He's gone around the perimeter of the home and scraped off in multiple places and parts of the brick, like there were bricks on the ground," said Shelton. "I asked them, 'What do you think the job was that you were originally hired' and they said, 'painting the wall'."
Shelton said the owner of the company told her parents they would then need to write them a check for even more money to repair the wall.
"He told her that he needed her to write a check for $11,000 right now," said Shelton. "We then find out that he says the total job is going to be $22,000."
Shelton's father has been in the hospital and she said the owner of Royal RMS decided to lower his price from $22,000 to $12,000.

"He tells my dad 'out of the goodness of my heart, instead of $22,000, because of everything that you're going through with your health, I'm only going to charge you $12,000,' so my parents are wanting this to be completed, said 'okay, fine'", said Shelton.
But even after handing over more than $6,000 total, the work was never done.
Shelton said her father is terminally ill and she's frustrated her parents have been taken advantage of.
"The last thing that my parents need right now during my dad's last few months of life is dealing with this chaos," said Shelton.
We called the owner of Royal RMS and he declined to speak with us.
"No. I don't have any comment," said the owner.
Shelton said she just wants to warn others to be aware.
"We want other families to know that if they've had the same experience to speak up," said Shelton.
Shelton said her family hired another contractor for around $2,500 to come and fix her parents' brick wall. ...read more read less
