ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Becoming a parent is amazing but can also have tough moments. That's why the first-of-its-kind center is opening in Albuquerque to make sure mothers have others to lean on. The owner of the new business explained how the space will support mothers every step of the way.
"I think a lot of moms are feeling alone and very isolated,” said Kaylie Tenorio, Owner of The Village Motherhood Company.

The Village Motherhood Company, a center near Coors Blvd. and Montaño Rd., is now open for business.
From sleepless nights to joyful firsts, the Village provides a slew of resources. "People don't talk about the hard stuff when it comes to motherhood. So having a space where everything is okay and there's no shame and you can find other people who are going through the same things you're going through, it helps,” said Tenorio.
The center offers support groups, birthing, lactation, and sleep classes, and prenatal postpartum fitness classes that include a mommy-and-me option.
It also has a retail section full of maternity goodies, a nursing room, nap room, and a coffee bar. "So, creating this place where it feels safe, and it feels not like a business but kind of like sitting in your living room,” said Tenorio.
Tenorio said childcare is also included in their services, with TVs showing you where your child is always.
The inspiration comes from Tenorio, who used a resource like this in Phoenix, Arizona. "And it was so huge for me to be able to come to one place and find education, find friendships, and community. And then when my family moved out here a few years ago, I realized that there was just nothing quite like that here in New Mexico,” said Tenorio.
The center houses a lactation consultant, a pelvic floor therapist, and part of Western Heights, a home visiting company. “The heart of the village is to bring people back out from behind their screens and to find that in-person interaction and community,” said Tenorio.
