A 46-year-old man was shot and killed Sunday evening in an altercation at Wells Park in El Cajon, police officials said. Witnesses called 911 shortly after 9:45 p.m. to report a shooting on East Madison Avenue near North First Street. When officers arrived, they found the victim in a parking lot at the park suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. The man was taken to a hospital by paramedics, but he died. It was unclear what led up to the shooting. Investigators believe the victim was involved in an altercation with two men. At least one of the men was armed and pulled out a gun and fired, police said. The assailants got into a vehicle and left the scene before officers arrived and are still being sought.
