Pottawatomie County honors 50 local vets for service and sacrifice
Apr 14, 2025
WESTMORELAND (KSNT) - Monday, April 14, community members gathered in Westmoreland for the latest Veterans Memorial Plaque reveal.
The latest edition to the memorial was dedicated to 50 former military members across all service branches who currently or previously have called Pottawatomie County
home.
Honoring those who put their life on the line while they're still living means a lot to those in the county, and the veterans who receive that recognition.
“You know there are so many memorial opportunities for veterans that have passed," Pottawatomie County Commissioner, Terry Force said, "but we don’t give the recognition to the veterans that are still living. They deserve every bit as much credit as anybody else, because they have dedicated a part of their life to keeping us safe.”

“It does give me a warm feeling that I’m noticed," Veteran Victor Icenhower said. "It’s nice to hear welcome home, thank you for serving, but it goes back to unless you served, you really don’t know what it's like to stand under fire.”
The county is already making preparations for the next dedication. They currently have the names of 19 local veterans. Once they reach 50 they'll gather at the same spot to unveil the next plaque.
