Survey opens for community’s input on upgrades, repairs to Chesterfield fairgrounds

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- Chesterfield County's Parks and Recreation Department is asking for the community's feedback on plans to repair and upgrade its fairgrounds property.
Chesterfield Parks and Recreation has launched an online survey to collect the public's input on its "Fairgrounds
Master Plan," which aims to repair and upgrade the 80-acre fairgrounds property located at 10300 Courthouse Road.
According to the county, the fairgrounds has about 45 acres of developable land and 35 buildings and structures across the site, some of which need repairs or significant upgrades.
The county said the goals of the project are to:
Deliver a transformative master plan that guides the fairgrounds into the 21st century.
Establish a new identity and brand for the fairgrounds that responds to market opportunities.
Reimagine the fairgrounds site to improve utilization and thoughtfully integrate it into the surrounding context.
Parks and Recreation staff are reportedly collaborating on the master plan with a group of private-sector entities, including Timmons Group, Moseley Architects, K/O Fairground Planners and Crossroads Consultants.
The county said the team began work in Oct. 2024 with stakeholder engagement and interviews. It then conducted a facilities and site analysis, as well as a market study, and began discussions about building and site programming.
Feedback collected from the online survey and during an April 10 community meeting will be used to shape initial design concepts and ideas that could be included in the master plan, according to officials.
A recording of the presentation from the April 10 community meeting can be found on Chesterfield County's YouTube page.
The deadline for the public to submit their input is at 5 p.m. on Monday, April 28. To submit your input, go here. ...read more read less
