SLIDELL, La. (WGNO) — An Arabi man accused of stealing a vehicle in the Slidell area was arrested after he allegedly tried to escape deputies by jumping into Lake Pontchartrain on Monday, April 14.
The St. Tammany Parish
Sheriff's Office reported that deputies responded to a report of a vehicle being stolen from a North Summerfield Loop driveway on Monday morning.

STPSO officials said deputies in the area found the vehicle on the Twin Spans after it became disabled due to a safety feature.
According to the sheriff's office, that's when 36-year-old Keith Hebert jumped off the Twin Spans and into the lake.

Hebert was taken into custody after STPSO marine division members got him out of the water.
Hebert was then transported to a hospital and will be booked on charges of theft of a motor vehicle (value greater than $25,000), aggravated flight from an officer, aggravated obstruction of a highway, resisting an officer and no driver's license once released.
