WEST MEMPHIS, Ark. -- After a generational flood hit West Memphis, Arkansas, over a week ago, the city is still finding ways to recover and both FEMA and the American Red Cross have been aiding those in need.
"Numbers-wise, we do have quite a bit of people who are impacted across the area," said
Carlos Carmona, Senior Program Manager of Red Cross. "We're definitely coming into a recovery phase. We're still sheltering folks. We're still providing emergency supplies."
"We do know that FEMA is on the ground. They were here doing a damage assessment, but I think it's gonna take a few days to compile that information," said Elzadia Washington, Red Cross Volunteer.

West Memphis resident, Katrina Bumphus says her whole house was completely flooded and she is having problems with insurance.
"Everybody's wondering where the funds are to help because they say that the insurance don't cover floods," said Bumphus. "Because everybody on this side, it got their floors, carpets and everything, and they say they ain't got no help they call insurance. And the insurance say they don't cover damage."
Bumphus says she only saw one organization for local assistance helping out.
"I wish FEMA would do more, but I haven't seen no one help but the Red Cross," said Bumphus. ...read more read less
